About Lake Towamensing

Lake Towamensing is the 190-acre centerpiece of Towamensing Trails, a private residential community in Penn Forest Township, just south of Albrightsville. No gas-powered boats are allowed on the water, keeping it quiet for swimming, kayaking, canoeing, and periodically-stocked fishing. Beyond the lake, residents share a private beach, an outdoor pool, tennis and basketball courts, a ball field, and a community center — a fuller amenity set than many Carbon County lake communities. It sits just minutes from Big Boulder and Jack Frost ski resorts, with easy access to I-80 and Route 534.

How It Came to Be

Towamensing Trails was established in 1971 and developed in six stages, on land in the southern Pocono Mountains that was Lenape territory before passing to Pennsylvania through the Walking Purchase — the community's name is itself rooted in the Lenape language. What began as a single vacation-home subdivision around the new lake has grown into a community of roughly 700 full-time residents alongside seasonal and rental homeowners, governed today by the Towamensing Trails Property Owners Association.
